Wesley Newhouse
Expertise:
Wes is an experienced litigator and transactional attorney.
The breadth of his jury trial experience extends to cases
involving age discrimination, disability discrimination,
discrimination on the basis of national origin, violation
of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, violation
of non-compete and confidentiality covenants, construction
disputes, personal injury claims, property damage claims,
and breach of contract. Wes has particular expertise
in cases involving injunctive relief, such as employment
discrimination, housing discrimination and disputes concerning
non-compete and confidentiality agreements.
Wes also assists many of the firm's clients in the establishment
of new business and charitable enterprises. He has often
organized limited liability companies, Subchapter S corporations,
partnerships, and 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organizations.
He also counsels clients regarding employment and business-related
issues, such as appropriate disciplinary procedures for
employees, the development of employment policies and
handbooks, and the negotiation of severance agreements.
Professional Associations:
Wes is an active member of the Columbus Bar Association
Labor and Employment Law Committee, the Ohio State Bar
Association, the American Bar Association, the Society for Human Resource Management
and the Human Resource Association of Central Ohio.
Education:
Wes completed his undergraduate studies at Ohio Northern
University, where he was awarded degrees in both business
administration and political science with high honors
in 1980. He is a 1983 graduate of The Ohio State University
College of Law.
Community Service:
A frequent author and lecturer, Wes has published articles
concerning insurance coverage for sexual harassment claims,
workplace monitoring of employee communications, exposure
of workers and commercial tenants to mold and asbestos,
and the liability of construction contractors for workplace
injuries. Wes is frequently invited to speak at seminars
and conferences on topics concerning employment law,
exposure to environmental hazards in the workplace, corporate
compliance with standards of ethics and conduct, insurance
for employment law claims, and workplace privacy.
Wes served as the Chairman of the Board from 2006 -
2008 of the Columbus After-School All-Stars, a charity
which is dedicated to providing quality after-school
programs to disadvantaged youth. He was one of the founding
Trustees, a past board president, and is currently a
member of the Board of Trustees of the Chamber Music
Connection, a charitable organization which provides
classical music instruction to youth. He currently is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Childhood Early Learning Centers. He teaches Business Law as an Adjuct Professor at DeVry University.
